A people’s manifesto to end the debt crisis

(View online) ([link removed])
Hi friend,

On Monday, BBC 1, Panorama ran an expose on debt 'vultures ([link removed]) ' - businesses preying on people in debt in the UK. Selling false solutions and trapping tens of thousands further into debt.

It’s just one of the ways the almost 13 million people who are heavily in debt in the UK are being exploited. It’s time this government, or the next, did something about it.

That’s why we’re building our Together Against Debt – People’s Manifesto. We want to hear what you want to see changed, especially if you, friends or family are facing the stress of unpayable debts.

You can add your voice by filling in our survey ([link removed]) and coming to our event in London on the 2 September.

It’s time the reality of the personal debt crisis was exposed. Let’s make sure whoever gets into power at the next election knows that they must take action.

Please feel free to pass this email on to someone you think might be interested in getting involved.

In solidarity,
Eva, Joe, Zak and all the team at Debt Justice.
Hi friend,

This week the Bank of England said ([link removed]) that 10% of the entire UK population is experiencing over in-debtedness. One in ten of us.

It’s not that surprising considering what we’ve all been through in the last three years. Pandemic, cost of living, energy price hikes. And what are the politicians doing about it?

Very little.

The best way to address this debt crisis is to tackle it head on. By organising together, daring to dream of a better world and speaking our truths, we can not only make those in power listen, we can make them act.

Next year the UK we will likely see a general election, we must make sure that whoever is elected takes action to bring down the debt.

We want to know what you want to see changed, debt cancellation, action on energy bills or all of the above? Over the next few months, we’ll be building our Together Against Debt – People’s Manifesto, before delivering it directly to politicians.

We know the day to day impact debt is having on people’s lives:
“It’s give with the one hand and take with the other. I might get a few quid off my energy bill but that’s swallowed up by food prices going through the roof. I still don’t have peace of mind and I am already dreading winter when my energy bills will go up again." - Junnie Braithwaite

It’s time politicians knew it too.

You can get involved by filling in our short survey or, if you are worried about debt yourself, coming to our event on the 2 September.
Tell us what you think ([link removed])

The build-up of unpayable debt is weighing down our communities, and will act as a weight on the economy for years to come unless the government recognises the severity of the personal debt crisis and takes action. Together, we can make them.
Nothing about us without us - Add your voice ([link removed])
