Grizzly bears have long been sought after by trophy hunters, simply to display their hides as rugs or mount their heads on walls. As a result, they were almost driven to extinction in many parts of their range before they were granted protection under the Endangered Species Act. Despite this, their populations are nowhere near recovered.
