Hey John,
Frontline Surveillance is low-risk investigations that take place from public property. Small teams taking minimal risks can have a big impact to expose cruelty. Ana Mehl is speaking about the accomplishments of our frontline surveillance activists. She will be sharing a few stories from various frontline teams. We will also be showing an amazing video one of our teams filmed while doing frontline surveillance. Brunch will also be announced soon and as always there will be fresh, hot coffee! Come join us at our Meetup: How You Can Go to the Frontlines this Saturday, February 22nd, 11 AM at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center.
If you're interested in getting more involved in this active community, apply to become a chapter member at dxe.io/apply.
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all taking place at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center, 2425 Channing Way, unless otherwise noted). Action events are highlighted in blue and community events are highlighted in orange -- both are crucial to our movement!
- Wednesday, February 19th, 11 AM: Outreach at Berkeley City College - We will be outreaching at Berkeley City College and get folks involved in the animal rights community. We are there to inspire the next generation of activists to take bold action for animals. Berkeley City College with a lot of students interested in social justice causes is a great place to reach out to compassion folks and we need YOU to ask them to join the animals right movement! We will be tabling with TV and VR and handing out leaflets. Everyone is welcome to join! We will show various footages from DxE action, animals in agricultural industries to happy animals in sanctuaries on a TV screen and VRs for folks to experience what happens in the agriculture facilities. For people who do not have experience in outreach, don’t worry! They can shadow other outreachers, handle the VR, make sure the table is neat, refill leaflets on table when they run out. You can help in different ways! Your presence makes a difference! We will be doing the outreach inside Berkeley City College.
- Thursday, February 20th, 8:30 AM: Pack the Courtroom for Open Rescue Activists! - Repeated evidence of criminal animal cruelty has been exposed at factory farms in Sonoma County. Legislators and government officials have been contacted dozens of times with this footage and have taken no action. Instead, Sonoma County officials have arrested the nonviolent activists who exposed this cruelty and enacted their right to rescue suffering animals. Jon Frohmayer and Rachel Zeigler are going to court for their preliminary hearing on the eight felonies they're facing for trying to rescue dying animals. This will be the first hearing in which evidence is presented, but it will likely be only the prosecution presenting evidence. This is because the standard of proof is only a "preponderance of the evidence" at this stage, meaning that the prosecution only needs to show that it's more likely than not that the crimes in question happened. Still, it's possible that the judge will find that some or all of the charges should be dismissed at this point. We need YOU to come to court in your blue DxE shirt and show your support for these activists. We must demonstrate that the public cares about animals and supports activists who make sacrifices to save them. Take off work or school if you can! Meet us inside the courthouse at 600 Administration Drive in Santa Rosa.
- Sunday, February 23rd, 1 PM: Part 2 - Beginner Open Rescue Training Series - Learn the skills it takes to become an open rescue investigator! In part 2 of the open rescue training series we will be teaching you about, communications protocols, navigation, biosecurity, and more. This training will be packed with lots of valuable information so come prepared to take notes! The training is open to anyone, even those who did not attend Part 1.
