Hello and Happy Friday!
We’re back in session in DC and working hard before August recess. Let’s look at what we accomplished this week.
It was a busy week for the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. Wednesday we held a markup for ten bills, of which we sponsored two and were the Republican lead on a third. All three of our bills passed, two by a unanimous vote. They addressed important cybersecurity issues – removing four-year degree requirements for federal cybersecurity jobs, having agencies take a closer look at which digital licenses they purchase, and strengthening AI training requirements for federal employees. We are in a technological arms race with many other countries and, to emerge victorious in this race, we must possess the most skilled and tech-savvy workforce in the world. These bills are an important step towards securing American dominance.
Additionally, the Oversight and Accountability Committee announced that IRS Whistleblower Gary Shapley and Whistleblower X will testify at our committee next week. These whistleblowers have provided information about how the Justice Department refused to follow evidence that implicated Joe Biden, tipped off Hunter Biden’s attorneys, allowed the clock to run out with respect to certain charges, and put Hunter Biden on the path to a sweetheart plea deal
You may remember we wrote to you about the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passing out of the Armed Services Committee a few weeks ago. This week, the full House of Representatives considered the bill and – after stopping an effort by far-right Republicans to tank the bill through amendments on unrelated social issues – passed it. This bill ensures that the Department of Defense and the Pentagon will be funded for another year. Read more here.
