Will you join the growing movement for liability?

Dear Friend,
It’s no secret that the tobacco industry is one of the most destructive industries still operating today.
To this day, we continue to lose 8 million people to tobacco-related illnesses. And in addition to the harm that tobacco products cause to people’s health and wellbeing, Big Tobacco is also fueling an ecological crisis that affects millions of people each year.1
For example, Mexico allocates close to 7,000 hectares of its arable land to the cultivation of tobacco -- land that could be used to produce food and feed 40,000 people each year.
Growing tobacco crops is big business -- one that Big Tobacco greatly profits from at great cost to people, the planet, and our natural resources. It’s a business that is fueling climate change, putting farmers in dangerous jobs, and contributing to food insecurity, especially in countries in the Global South.
The world needs food, not tobacco. That’s why we're demanding that Big Tobacco pay for its decades of health and ecological harm. It’s time to Make Big Tobacco Pay -- and we need you with us.

Together, we can help end Big Tobacco’s abuses

We must hold this deadly industry liable for the decades of harm it has caused. This epidemic has a severe economic impact on governments -- and it’s not just healthcare costs that governments need to worry about.
Big Tobacco is one of the biggest drivers of ecological destruction. And amid the ongoing climate crisis, the environmental cost of this industry is even higher. The industry emits and uses more than 80 million tonnes of carbon each year to grow tobacco crops and produce tobacco products. Trillions of cigarette butts are also discarded each year, making them the most littered item on the planet.2
These are staggering and heartbreaking numbers. And the cost of this entirely preventable epidemic disproportionately falls on Indigenous communities and low-income communities in Global South countries, as well as youth and women who bear these costs more than other people.
We can’t let Big Tobacco continue destroying lives, harming the planet, and exploiting natural resources like land and water in service of its profits. That's why we're asking you to join us in calling on governments to make Big Tobacco pay for its abuses. Sign the petition today and together, we can help save millions of lives.
