Painted Churches of Texas, Part 2: Community and Preservation [ [link removed] ]

Many Czech and German communities created reflections of their former homelands when they immigrated to Texas in the 1800s, notably through language, customs, and what became known as the?Painted Churches?exceptional examples of architecture and artistry. Earlier this year, we visited with Bob Brinkman, staff member of the Texas Historical Commission, as he guided us through the artistic surprises of the?painted churches?of Texas.?In this exciting follow-up, we?ll host three presenters who?ve worked tirelessly to preserve and research these masterpieces of Texas craftsmanship. Join us as we welcome the Honorable Judge Ed Janecka, conservator Robert Marshall, and author Anthony Head.

We are thrilled to host staff members of Texas Folklife and four-time Grammy nominee and Creole and zydeco historian Sean Ardoin for a captivating discussion of the history and movement of Creole and zydeco culture across the border of Louisiana and Texas. We?ll explore the significance of art, culture, tradition, and the profound influence space and place have had on the communities that have preserved and celebrated this vibrant musical tradition.
