Hi everyone, Tara Healey here.

I wanted to talk about something Maura did recently. Some of you might not see how it relates to you at first, but if you read to the end, I think you’ll see why I think it’s so important.

Several weeks ago, Maura created a new position in her administration — the Director of Rural Affairs.

The idea is to create an advocate for rural communities, someone who will make sure the state is paying attention to their needs, understands their challenges, and can guide the administration’s work to help support them.

That’s important, but not just because rural Massachusetts has so much potential. It’s important because far too often, small towns are overlooked and underrepresented. Maura wants to change that.

Because in Massachusetts, we don’t leave anyone behind.

We’ve talked a lot about Team Massachusetts, the idea that when we work together, we can lift every community up.

It’s about fairness — everyone deserves a chance to build a good life, no matter your zip code. But it’s also because our commonwealth is stronger united than it is divided.

Our Governor is working to build a Massachusetts where every single kid can get a world class education, where there are good paying jobs for every worker, where housing is affordable in every community and hardworking parents don’t have to wonder how they’re going to pay the bills.

Big city or small town, whenever a part of our state is left behind, we all lose. And whenever we come together as one Massachusetts, we win.

Democracy is based on a really simple idea — that we’re stronger together than we are alone. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t bet against any part of our state. But together, there’s no future we can’t build.

Maura believes in Massachusetts, and we’re going to be backing up her work to deliver for every community across our state.

If you believe in Team Massachusetts too, I hope you’ll join us.

-Tara Healey
