Yours in service,   Mann.House.Gov Happy Independence Day! 247 years ago, our Founding Fathers risked everything to declare our nation's independence – a nation built on the belief that all men are created equal and endowed with certain inalienable rights by our Creator. Today, America still proudly stands as a land of opportunity and prosperity and shines as a beacon of freedom to the world. I often say that when government grows, freedom shrinks. Our second President and author of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson, coined this phrase - and he was exactly right. That is why as your Representative in Congress, I am working to protect your rights and to create opportunities and prosperity for all Americans. I am committed to advancing Kansas commonsense values like unleashing American energy independence to reduce energy prices, ending reckless government spending that is causing inflation, and preserving our constitutional freedoms. As a nation, we must also be thankful for the generations who have come before us. It is because of Americans - not the government - that our nation remains a symbol of hope and freedom in the world. This includes our service members who put their lives on the line to defend our country, which is why I support policies to ensure that our veterans and their families get the support and resources they need. I'm proud to be a Kansan and to represent the Big First District where the basic values of faith, family, and freedom are still shining bright. It's our responsibility to never let that light go out. It was a pleasure to visit with you and to listen to your concerns. Your presence and active participation made it a great day. I very much value your feedback, ideas, and concerns regarding the various issues we discussed during the town hall. Your input is the foundation of my work as your Representative in Congress. During the town halls this week, Kansans and I discussed a wide array of issues, including: Overreaching government regulations The southern border crisis and fentanyl flooding into the country Infrastructure and transportation needs across the district The upcoming Farm Bill reauthorization and more. Tracey Mann visits Great Bend - GREAT BEND TRIBUNE (gbtribune.com) Mann: President shouldn't 'forgive' debt without Congress (salinapost.com) In the Office U.S. Supreme Court Throws Out Unconstitutional Mass Student Debt Cancellation Last Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court rightly ruled against President Biden's unconstitutional student loan debt cancellation. The President’s plan would have transferred debt from borrowers who took out student loans to hardworking taxpayers who did not. President Biden’s approval rating with young Americans is at 36%, and his efforts to cancel mass student debt are nothing more than a political ploy. With our national debt approaching $32 trillion, and President Biden adding $1 trillion to our national deficit every year, now is not the time to erase the debt that student borrowers knowingly took on. Americans deserve a well-developed, long-term solution that addresses the high cost of education - not a short-term band-aid that buys votes and adds to our nation’s record high inflation. Retaining Skilled U.S. Veterans in the Workforce Our U.S. veterans retire from the military with a variety of skills and training expertise and a desire to return to continue serving their fellow citizens. Unfortunately, red tape often stands in the way, like the existing requirement for retired military members to submit a waiver to work as a civilian employee at the U.S. Department of Defense within 180 days of their retirement. Congress has a duty to ensure that our veterans return home with the resources and support they need, not create obstacles that hinder them. I'm proud to support H.R. 939, the Retain Skilled Veterans Act, which would permanently remove this 180-day waiver requirement for veterans seeking employment at the Department of Defense. Supporting Our Law Enforcement Officers Since President Biden took office, crime rates have skyrocketed across the country, and our law enforcement officers are protecting our communities with a target on their backs. Our law enforcement officers deserve extra protection from violence directed at them. I proudly support the men and women in uniform, which is why I cosponsor H.R. 3079, the Back the Blue Act of 2023. This legislation would establish new criminal offenses for killing, assaulting, and fleeing to avoid prosecution from a law enforcement officer, public safety officer, or judge. We are a nation founded on law and order. It's time we return to that for the safety of our communities and the brave individuals who put their lives on the line every day to protect us.
