Those of you watching the Supreme Court hand down decision after decision on 6-3 ideological lines are no doubt as disappointed as I am.

Yesterday, the extremists on the Court struck down important higher education admissions standards that help us create inclusive and equitable learning environments. Devastatingly, affirmative action has been banned in California public universities since 1996.

We all know that many students are not afforded equal opportunity in our education systems. And it’s our duty to fight to close the racial gaps in education. Not just because it’s good for students of color. But because diversity in our schools enriches the experience for all our student bodies.

Here’s the thing. When you get decisions like this from a morally bankrupt Supreme Court, it’s tempting to succumb to despair. But I’m not giving in, and I hope you’ll join me in continuing the fight.

While the ruling from SCOTUS narrows the scope of permissible consideration of race in admissions, it does not diminish our resolve to pursue policies and practices that ensure equal access and opportunities for all students. We’re committed to working with educational institutions, community leaders, and stakeholders to find innovative solutions that promote diversity, equality, and inclusion.

If you’re maddened by these SCOTUS decisions, I want to ask you today to contribute to my campaign so that I can fight for California’s students. Today happens to be our end-of-quarter fundraising deadline. So any donations you make before midnight are even more valuable than normal as we try to post strong fundraising numbers.

Will you make a $5 donation before midnight to keep me and my office in the fight to promote diversity, equality and inclusion for all of California? [[link removed]]

Obviously your campaign donations are meaningful because they help us win elections. But more than that, they’re a sign of how deep the public support is here in California for the political agenda we share. That’s why these quarterly fundraising deadlines are so important.

When the quarterly reports come out, politicians and pundits take stock of how much money we raise. And they see it as a sign of the strength of support for our progressive agenda. So thank you for considering a donation today before midnight. You can add your $5 donation to our campaign before the close of the deadline here. [[link removed]]

No matter what these extreme ideologues on the Supreme Court throw our way, you can count on me to fight as hard as anyone to make California a state that leads the way forward.

Thank you,

Rob Bonta
