I had to quickly assemble a campaign to hold a key Democratic State Senate seat in a 2014 special election. I overcame millions in outside spending to flip a long-time Republican U.S. House seat in 2018. And I beat back a tough challenge in 2022 — a year that many predicted would be a "red wave" that took down incumbents like me.
