I could have kept quiet about this, but I owe it to the voters to tell them when a politician, who is trying to earn their trust, is also being untruthful to them. In fact, as someone who is running for political office, I feel it is my responsibility to tell you the truth and set things straight - something you should expect from a leader.

And I’m not suggesting you take my word for it (although you could because we’ve been friends for years and Bob hoodwinked me about this before). To save you the same trouble, I attached the proof below.

Let’s begin …

My opponent has tried to legitimize his record by saying in his words, “he was just a yellow dog democrat” and only voted that way because that’s the way things always were in the South. He also claims he more recently voted Democrat so he could vote for local elected officials like sheriff in Panola County, where he just moved from a few months ago just so he could run for office in DeSoto County. What he’s not telling you is that the sheriff was not on the ballot in 2008, 2016 or 2020.

Those elections were for President of the United States.

Here’s the truth: Instead of voting for McCain in 2008, he voted for Barack Obama. Instead of voting for Donald J. Trump or Ted Cruz in 2016, he voted for the Democrat option. And on a cold day on March 10, 2020 my opponent, Bob Morris, stood in line to vote for the party that was still crushing small businesses and rallying to defund the police. The party that was stoking race riots and tearing down cultural statues. The party that’s cheering on as men compete and beat our little girls in sports. The party that wants to violate our second amendment and take away our God given rights to self defense. The party that wants to pack the Supreme Court so they can usurp our freedoms. The party that has us on the verge of WW3 because of their incompetence.

Those are the values he voted for.

But nothing could be worse than voting for Joe Biden, right? Think again! He’s even donated to their party. Don’t believe me? Ask him to explain why he donated to Matt Cartwright - a swing state anti-gun, liberal in Pennsylvania that co-sponsored the assault weapon ban of 2022 - the same congressman who received donations from George Soros. Again, all of this is documented by public records.
And that’s not the only Democrat he’s donated to either.

Now, I realize his strongest supporters will embrace his candidacy regardless of detailed facts and documentation; some will even attack me. But this post is not intended to persuade them, rather, to forewarn those who don’t follow politics on a regular basis, truly care about about our future, and want to keep liberal ideology out of DeSoto County.

There’s one thing for sure, we are being lied to enough by politicians in Washington and the Legacy Media. We don’t need a life-long, Democrat politician who is willing to mislead us to earn votes, too.

Meet Matthew Barton

Matthew Barton grew up in Petal, Mississippi in a blue-collar family. His mother was a director at Tupperware and his father owned the small, family business – Barton Fence Company – where Matthew worked growing up.

After attending public school, Matthew attended Pearl River Community College and Warner University, where he studied Business Administration. He holds a law degree from Ole Miss Law, where he graduated Cum Laude and received the interviewing and counseling award.

In 2011, Matthew married his high school sweetheart, Megan. After graduating from Ole Miss Law in 2015, they moved to DeSoto County where Matthew started a law firm and Megan continued working at the Desoto County Schools as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.

During law school, Matthew served as an intern in the DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office where he presented cases to grand jury, tried cases to verdict, and performed all functions of a practicing attorney. He has served as a prosecutor for the City of Southaven and the City of Horn Lake and now serves as a special prosecutor for Southaven, Horn Lake, and DeSoto County Justice Courts – where he’s established a strict, tough on crime reputation.

As an attorney, Mathew has dealt with every type of criminal matter ranging from DUI to capital murder, in more than 37 courts across Mississippi.

Matthew is a member of the Federalist Society, a conservative legal association, an enhanced conceal carry permit holder, Krewe of Hernando member, NRA member, and donates his time serving as a pro bono attorney to Veterans every year.

Today, Matthew, his wife Megan, and their daughter Eleanor live in Hernando where Matthew owns his private law firm. Eleanor attends Pre-K at Hernando United Methodist Church and Megan is a stay at home mom after seven years with DeSoto County schools.
