This movement fights for workers’ rights.

I joined the Service Workers International Union (SEIU) and workers from McDonald’s at a Fight for 15 protest on Tuesday. We advocated for a living wage and giving McDonald’s workers the ability to unionize.

What do we want? $15 and a union!

The bottom line is that people can’t survive on $7.25 an hour. The price of rent, food, childcare, and pretty much everything else has skyrocketed. Meanwhile the federal minimum wage hasn’t changed in 13 years. There’s a misconception that minimum wage jobs are meant for high schoolers to teach them the value of a dollar, but that’s
wrong. If folks are spending 40+ hours every week at their job, they should be able to support themselves. Big corporations like McDonald’s have the money, they’re just refusing to step up.

When do we want it? NOW!

It’s time to elect representatives who fight for the working class, not just big industry donors. Congress has sat on their hands when it comes to passing legislation that makes workers’ lives easier. It’s not just about pay either, poor working conditions and reduced rights are never acceptable. That’s why folks working at places like McDonald’s or Starbucks should be given the right to unionize regardless of where they live. Unions are the reason we have a minimum wage and workers’ rights in the first place, let’s not hinder that.

Our outreach is in full effect!

We have another phone bank scheduled for next Thursday, July 6th at 6 PM. Spend time with us at our office on 6220 Westpark Dr. in Houston, we’ll have plenty of snacks!

This is how we win District 07.
The changes we’re working to create aren’t just possible, they are inevitable. Let’s work together to spread the word about universal healthcare, effective gun control, and a greener, cleaner, more sustainable Houston. Lobbyists and special interest groups may own our other representatives in Congress, but I won’t be bought!
