Welcome to another edition of FT Now! And Happy Valentine's Day! This
week, Democrat Governor John Bel Edwards cheated Louisiana teachers out
of a promised pay raise. Where's the love, Governor? In Missouri,
it's safe to say gubernatorial candidate NIcole Galloway won't be
exchanging any valentines or candygrams with state Attorney General Eric
Schmitt. Last but not least, what does it say about a national media
that never hesitates to devote its full attention to violence among
Trump supporters, but goes silent when a Trump hater tries to run down
Republican volunteers? Hint: Nothing good.
John Bel Edwards Turns His Back on Teachers, Breaks Pay Raise Promise
What Happened:
Democrat Governor of Louisiana, John Bel Edwards, reversed course on a
promised teacher pay raise when he unveiled his budget proposal this
week.
Why You Should Care:
While Edwards was running for re-election, he promised teachers a pay
raise. But now that's he's won his second term, it looks like he's
abandoned that promise - leaving teachers in the state feeling "shocked"
and "floored". It's almost as if Edwards just said whatever he had to
to get re-elected.
What Happens Next:
We're not completely sure, but one thing is clear: John Bel Edwards
saw teachers as just another tool to further his political career.

Missouri Dem Nicole Galloway Under Fire For Ethics Concerns, Potential
Criminal Violations
What Happened:
Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt said State Auditor Nicole
Galloway may have broken the law by releasing witness transcripts in her
audit of U.S. Senator Josh Hawley.
Why You Should Care:
To recap: Galloway, who's running for governor as a Democrat,
conducted a taxpayer-funded audit of Hawley, who is a Republican, that
many have called overtly partisan and unethical. The St. Louis
Post-Dispatch even called it a "personal political mission." Apparently,
AG Scmitt, we now know, even told her that releasing transcripts from
the audit would be a felony. So why did she do it?
What Happens Next:
Galloway should be called out for not turning the same magnifying glass
on herself and her staff that she forces on her political opponents.

Man Driven By Dislike of Trump in Florida GOP Attack
What Happened:
Last Saturday, volunteers with the Florida Republican Party were
registering people to vote outside a Walmart Superstore. At some point,
a man driving a van plowed through their tent, barely missing the
volunteers. He later told police he did it because he dislikes President
Trump and someone had to "take a stand."
Why You Should Care:
Aside from it being a horrible criminal act, the incident has gotten
barely - if any - national media attention. Imagine if the roles were
reversed though, and a Trump supporter had driven his van toward a group
of Democrat Party volunteers. It doesn't take a lot to imagine the
media frenzy and "national conversations" that would have ensued.
What Happens Next:
One can only hope attacks like this stop for good.
