NOW is the time to address this issue. If we aren’t careful, we will wake up and DeSoto County will look like Memphis.

And that doesn’t need to happen.

This type of occurrence is part of normal everyday life in Memphis, but here in DeSoto County we value a more charming way of life - one that does not include criminal activity - of any sort.

Which leads me to this: There has been a lot of talk about “violent crime” in recent weeks, but what we don’t hear is that these property crimes have a 20% higher recidivism rate (repeat offenders), due mostly to the slap-on-the-wrist penalties they usually get compared to violent offenses.

Many criminals feel emboldened by getting away with property crimes like this, and, more times than not, eventually graduate to more violent crimes. What’s worse, these types of car burglaries result in many guns being taken from law abiding citizens, and ultimately being used as part of criminal enterprises (selling of stolen firearms, violent robberies, assaults, etc).

If you honor me with your vote on August 8th for District Attorney, I promise to devote adequate resources and efforts to provide uniform justice across all crime categories, including property crimes. My business model to improve efficiency within the office will allow us to prosecute these types of crimes much more aggressively than we’ve ever seen before.

I will not tolerate letting DeSoto County look like South Memphis.
