About 10 years ago, after a lockdown drill, one of my children asked me what school shootings were like when I was a kid. How do you answer that question?
No parent should wonder when they put their child on the bus in the morning if they will come home the same way. We shouldn’t walk through our school buildings on back-to-school night hoping our child’s classroom isn’t close to possible entry points. Our kids & communities deserve better. We deserve a Congress that will take action on gun violence not just with words but by doing the challenging work of identifying and convincing anyone who can be moved to get this done.
