JOhn, we're still breathing a big sigh of relief after the Supreme Court upheld Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act (which protects against racial gerrymandering) and struck down Alabama's unjust congressional lines.

But it never should have come down to a 5-4 decision. Congress should have stepped up to strengthen the Voting Rights Act immediately after the Supreme Court weakened the law in 2013.

Jennifer is determined to use this moment to rally folks and call on Congress to do its part and legislatively protect the Voting Rights Act from further right-wing challenges.

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 is one of the most essential pieces of legislation for our democracy. Its passage and impact is a testament to the blood, sweat, and tears of so many who dedicated their lives to justice.

But in recent years, Republicans have waged a sustained assault on the right to vote. We've seen voter ID laws passed by far too many states, purges of voter rolls, and cut-backs to early voting. And the Supreme Court's disastrous 2013 Shelby ruling opened the floodgates to much of this.

So even though the court may have protected the Voting Rights Act this month, we cannot count on that happening in the future.

Jennifer has been unequivocal in her support of legislation to strengthen the Voting Rights Act. We need to have her back so that Kevin McCarthy can no longer ignore the will of the people.
