When the United Nations says we’re in a “code red for humanity,” they aren’t just being dramatic - climate change is getting worse and if we don’t act now, it could be too late to reverse it.

That’s why I’m so excited to be reintroducing my landmark climate change bill, the FARM Act, this week!

Now let me explain why I’m reintroducing this bill:

Last week we all saw the effects of our climate inaction. Huge swaths of our country including NYC and the Midwest were breathing dangerous smoke because of multiple mega wildfires in Canada. In California this isn’t new to us, we’ve been facing all the negative effects of climate change - severe droughts, uncontrollable flooding, deadly wildfires - for decades.

I believe if we’re truly going to get ahead of this crisis, we have to make sure every community is included in the solution, and for my community, that means bringing our farmers into the solution. That’s why I’m so proud of my Future of Agricultural Resiliency and Modernization (FARM) Act. It is one of the few climate bills that has the support of the League of Conservation Voters and the Farm Bureau.

Why is that so important? Because we cannot tackle carbon emissions without active participation from the agricultural sector. This bill allows farmers to be allies in the fight by promoting sustainable farming practices. Solutions like buying more low emission farming equipment, programs for soil and air health, increasing carbon sequestration, even state of the art technology to turn ag by-products into beneficial biocarbon products.
