The Texas Historical Commission preserves and operates 36 state historic sites [ [link removed] ] across Texas. These unique places honor Texas history and inspire an understanding of what it means to be a Texan.

Judge Eddie E. Harrison Juneteenth Heritage Celebration [ [link removed] ]

"Celebrating the Legacy of the Black Cowboy"
Washington-on-the-Brazos, Washington
Saturday, June 24

Join Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site for the annual Judge Eddie E. Harrison Juneteenth Heritage Celebration. The event is family-friendly and free to enjoy! This year we are celebrating the legacy of the Black cowboy. There will be food, vendors, live music performances, a genealogy workshop, and cowboy demonstrations. In the afternoon, visitors can play baseball and view exhibits from Mance Lipscomb, Johnnie Swearingen, and the Black Cowboy Museum.

Preserving the Arsenal: Behind the Scenes Webinar [ [link removed] ]

Wednesday, June 21

Join the National Museum of the Pacific War for an insider look at how the firearms in the vast collection are maintained. During this 30-minute webinar, Director of Collections and Exhibits Reagan Grau and Maintenance Assistant and Lead Mechanic Aaron Verinder will take viewers through the process of cleaning a firearm and demonstrate step by step how these firearms are preserved for display and living history programs.

Join the National Museum of the Pacific War [ [link removed] ] for its inaugural Summer Institute for Teachers! This professional development program is available for educators, particularly those teaching middle- and high-school social studies, over the course of four days. This four-day professional development program provides educators an immersive opportunity to engage in expert-led workshops that explore the Pacific War and provide cross-curricular tools, lessons, and resources for teachers across varying disciplines.
