We’ve all seen how climate change impacts our access to clean air. The Canadian fires that caused seriously unhealthy air quality across our state and region this week are a direct result of polluters’ refusals to cut back on their dirty energy practices.

Here in Pennsylvania, we have the opportunity right now to roll back oil and gas corporations’ ability to pollute our air through the 2023-2024 State Budget: [link removed]

In this year’s budget, we could see historic investments in environmental protection and full funding for the agencies that will fight for clean air, create climate-resilient communities, and protect our watersheds!

But it’s going to take all of our efforts to get this budget passed by the anti-environment controlled Senate. Every single cent that you chip in goes directly to our efforts to protect your right to clean air and water – we’re strategizing with environmental partners, listening to community members, and lobbying in Harrisburg.

The haze in our skies makes it clear: investing in a clean future has never been more important than it is now.

It’s clear that Governor Shapiro and our one-seat pro-environment majority in the state House share our beliefs about what it takes to make our families safe, healthy, and thriving: investing in good air quality, clean rivers and streams, family farms, and good-paying, union, clean energy jobs across Pennsylvania.

Unfortunately, we also know that these wildfires are not the only climate problems affecting Pennsylvania communities.

More than 5,000 Pennsylvania homes were damaged by Hurricane Ida in 2021, and these superstorms are getting more frequent and more dangerous. Hot temperatures have been linked to the cause of up to 20,000 deaths a year in North America, and we’re seeing extreme heat waves last longer and create dangerous urban heat islands.

Every community across Pennsylvania is seeing the impacts of climate change, and it will take every community standing together to make change in our Commonwealth.
