Rep. Troy E. Nehls Calls on Target to Remove All LGBT Merchandise for Children Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap on what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Washington Rep. Troy E. Nehls Calls on Target to Remove All LGBT Merchandise for Children EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Nehls Rips Target, Calls On Retailer To... Republican Texas Rep. Troy Nehls sent a letter to Target on Tuesday calling on the retailer to remove all pro-LGBT merchandise for children and criticizing them for "exploiting children." The Daily Caller first obtained a copy of the letter,... Read more dailycaller.com This week, I sent a letter to Target executives calling on them to remove all pro-LGBT merchandise for children. The LGBT Pride Kids Collection promotes sexuality and sexual behavior, which desensitizes our children to adult content. Target's LGBT children's merchandise puts parents in a position to have conversations with their own children about adult content they might not be ready for. Not only is Target putting the nation's youth in danger by promoting dangerous and potentially sterilizing gender transition surgeries on minors, but is breaching its fiduciary duty to its shareholders due to pressures from the radical Left and those within the company with personal agendas. Children have an innate innocence that should be protected at all costs. As a parent, I am disgusted Target is exploiting children to advance the agenda of the Democrat Party. Children need to be protected, not exploited, and I will do everything in my power to protect our nation's youth. Read more about my letter to Target HERE. Chairman Nehls Presses Amtrak CEO at the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials Hearing This week, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials examined the current and future state of Amtrak. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) gave historic funding to our nation's railroads, with a significant amount being allotted to Amtrak. Amtrak relies heavily on taxpayer dollars to operate, and the majority of its revenue comes from the federal government, not ticket sales. Since the creation of Amtrak in 1971, the company has never made a profit. The Subcommittee also questioned Amtrak's compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, rising crime in its stations and trains, the potential transport of illegal migrants from the southern border on its trains, and generous executive bonuses despite losses and service problems. This Subcommittee remains committed to conducting oversight to ensure that American taxpayer dollars are being used correctly and fairly. Watch my remarks from the hearing HERE. Reps. Troy E. Nehls and Chrissy Houlahan Reintroduce the Bipartisan Trucker Bathroom Access Act Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, facilities across the country have closed their bathrooms which have caused essential employees, like our truckers, not to have access to use the restroom at work. This week, Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA-06) and I introduced the Trucker Bathroom Access Act, which would simply allow truckers access to bathrooms while they are on the road delivering or picking up cargo across the United States. I am proud to reintroduce legislation that supports truckers. Truckers are this nation's backbone, and we owe them for the tireless contributions they continue to make to keep our country moving. Nehls Reintroduces Border Security Bills The Biden Administration has created the worst border crisis in American history. Last year, the Biden Administration released guidance requiring federal immigration prosecutors to exercise prosecutorial discretion in dismissing older cases of immigration who they do not believe threaten public safety, national security, or border security. This means a higher number of illegal criminal aliens in the country will no longer be prioritized for deportation. To combat this, I reintroduced the Prioritizing the Removal of Migrants Act, which would codify a 2017 Executive Order signed by President Trump, in order to limit this prosecutorial discretion and ensure the faithful execution of the immigration laws of the United States against all removable aliens. In 2022, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced immigration judges can now consider the mental health status of an illegal immigrant convicted of an aggravated felony when considering their asylum claim or whether to hold their deportation. America is already facing an immigration and mental health crisis. This week, I reintroduced the Asylum Claims Improvement Act of 2023, which would prevent judges from taking the mental health of an alien into account when considering these criminal individuals' asylum claims or whether to withhold their removal. The Biden Administration has shown they have no interest in stopping the border crisis. In fact, their policies indicate that they welcome it. If the White House refuses to act, Republicans will. Nehls Speaks at House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Hearing Due to Joe Biden’s failure to enforce our immigration laws, there have been over 5.5 million illegal alien encounters and more than 1.5 million known gotaways since he took office. This is the direct result of his decisions to reverse effective Trump-era border and immigration policies. At the same time, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has implemented policies that not only are designed to encourage illegal immigration but also violate immigration law as set by Congress. At Wednesday’s Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Hearing on “The Border Crisis: Is the Law Being Faithfully Executed?,” I discussed the effectiveness of Section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). In simple terms— this provision of immigration law says that the President of the United States can “at any time for any reason he deems necessary” say that no alien is allowed to enter the United States. Congress gave Biden and Mayorkas the tools they need to stop the border crisis at our southern border. If they fail to utilize Section 212(f), you can be sure Republicans will when we take back the White House in 2024. Watch my remarks from the hearing HERE. The House Committee on Agriculture Needs Your Help Every five years, the Farm Bill is typically renewed. Since the 1930’s, Congress has enacted 18 farm bills, which have traditionally focused on commodity support, crop insurance, conservation, nutrition assistance, and an array of other programs that address rural development, broadband deployment, and trade. The Farm Bill goes through an extensive process where it is proposed, debated, passed by Congress, and signed into law by the President. The current Farm Bill, the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2023, is set to expire on September 30, 2023. The House Committee on Agriculture recently launched a survey that is now open to the public to include input on how various programs are working for producers, stakeholders, and consumers around the country. Constituent input is vital and I encourage you to click here to provide your input for the 2023 Farm Bill: 2023 Farm Bill Feedback | House Agriculture Committee. The survey closes June 9, 2023. Service Academy Nominations Are Now Open My office is now accepting Service Academy Nominations. One of the privileges of serving in the United States House of Representatives is the opportunity to nominate outstanding young people from the 22nd Congressional District of Texas to be considered for appointment to our nation’s service academies. Admission to a service academy is a two-tiered process. First, the candidate must meet the minimum standards set by the individual academy. Second, the candidate must complete the congressional application by October 6, 2023, to be considered for an interview in our office with the nomination review board. Please note, the ultimate selection of appointees rests solely with academy officials and is based on their competitive evaluation of all nominees. The checklist and application can be found on my website. If you have any questions, please email [email protected] or call my district office at 346-762-6600.
