Salaam,

Last month, our team hosted a meeting with the State Department to discuss the latest developments in Pakistan, which over 100 community members attended. The discussion focused on protecting the integrity and importance of free and fair elections along with the commitment to uphold human rights domestically and abroad; this is one of the central values of Emgage Action.

I was honored to moderate this critical discussion with Jason McClellan, Director of the Office of Pakistan. We focused on a few key points, including a request for the Administration to take a clear stance against human rights abuses and to showcase its support of free and fair elections in Pakistan. Additionally, we raised concerns regarding the restrictions and general shutdowns on social media sites and the internet in the country.

The situation in Pakistan continues to raise concerns regarding the treatment of protestors, especially women, as well as the impact on Pakistanis studying or living in the United States. It also raises concerns about U.S. flood relief and other assistance in the country. We were proud to bring these issues to the Department of State and uplift the voices of our Pakistani American community. We will continue to monitor the situation and urge our government to support democracy, rule of law, and human rights in Pakistan.

These conversations with key Administration officials are an important component of our work, and our team is committed to continuing such dialogue. Please consider supporting us so we can continue to be of service.
