Fundraising BLITZ Shatters Goal!

THANK YOU!

🎉🎉We crushed our goal of $10,000 during last month's fundraising blitz for Joshua Cole and we owe it all to you! 🎉🎉

These funds will provide Joshua with the ability to connect with voters by hiring staff, placing virtual and other ads, and hosting events to meet with the voters who will send him back to the House of Delegates! ✅

Phonebanking Updates - LIVE June 7 Phonebank @ WNDC

In May we made over 500 📲, contacted 9️⃣ undecided voters and recruited 🔟 local volunteers to provide on-the-ground 🏃‍♀️ support for the campaign.

This is why we start phonebanking in May!

THIS WEDNESDAY, JUNE 7, our candidate Joshua Cole will join us over Zoom to talk about his campaign.

As part of that big night, we will be hosting a 📱 LIVE phonebanking 📱 event with our friends at the Woman's National Democratic Club in DuPont Circle.

Enjoy pizza, snacks, the cash bar and meeting other Sister District supporters!

Big Quiz Thing FUN-draiser with SD South Bay
June 17

Dust off your thinking caps and join us for this great FUN-draiser: a rousing evening of trivia, speakers and more! All proceeds will benefit Joshua Cole's campaign.

Our magnificent host--Noah Tarnow, creator of the Big Quiz Thing--returns with his hilarious and informative trivia game show featuring:

  • Fun team play
  • "Figureoutable” trivia questions
  • Hope for non-geniuses: smart-ass points for wrong-but-funny answers
  • Great early gift for Father’s Day!
  • Looking for a team? We've got a mix-and-match team that would love to have you!

Not a trivia person but still a supporter of a BLUE House of Delegates? Make your donation here.

Historic Firsts Series

Sister District has partnered with Teen Vogue on the Historic Firsts series. This month we feature Ruwa Romman, the first Muslim woman and Palestinian-American lawmaker in the Georgia statehouse.

Who is Sister District DC/VA/MD?

We are volunteers who agree that elections for state legislatures are where the real change is made, and understand the impact small efforts and donations can make in these critical elections.

Our Steering Committee coordinates our efforts across the DC/VA/MD area. One of our key sub-committees is the Operations Committee, chaired by Mary DeRosa.

About Mary

Mary lives in Washington DC with her husband of more than 30 years, Peter Bleakley. She grew up in New York, but DC has been home for decades (with a few  years away in Los Angeles and New York). She has one son, Nicky, who also lives in the DC area.

Mary is a Professor from Practice at Georgetown Law Center where she specializes in national security law. Prior to coming to Georgetown she had a long career in public service as a national security lawyer, including as Deputy Counsel to the President and National Security Council Legal Adviser in the Obama Administration. Among her other government roles, she served as Alternate Representative of the United States to the 66th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, as Chief Counsel for National Security for the Senate Judiciary Committee, and in the Clinton Administration as National Security Council Legal Advisor. Before entering government she was a lawyer in private practice at the law firm Arnold & Porter in DC.

Mary joined the Sister District Project in 2022 because she was eager to help make a difference in state legislative races, which are critical to protecting voting rights and civil rights and liberties, but too often are overlooked by political organizations.

Before You Go...

Sister District’s mission is to imagine, build, and expand progressive power in state legislatures, and we know that organizing around elections is just one piece of the puzzle.

That’s why we’re amplifying the voices of local lawmakers, educating the public about the importance of state leaders and policies, and inspiring people to deepen their civic engagement — especially locally and down-ballot.

There is power in storytelling, and the more people we bring into this fight, the more powerful our movement will become. We hope you will join us in our efforts!
