Winning for Fellow Americans VICTORY | WILL Wins Critical 2nd Amendment Case Against Biden Administration WILL won a preliminary injunction on behalf of three clients challenging the ATF’s new rule regulating up to 40 million pistols equipped with stabilizing braces last week. ATF’s new restrictions represented a clear attack on the Second Amendment and a significant overreach by federal bureaucrats. WILL was the first organization to file a lawsuit against the federal rule. 🗯 WILL President and General Counsel, Rick Esenberg, stated “Since President Biden took office, WILL attorneys have been on the front lines challenging his willingness to ignore the law, implementing policies he can't get through Congress. We will continue to stand up for our democracy." 🗯 Plaintiff Darren A. Britto—of Amarillo, Texas—said, “This court’s decision serves as an important reminder that the fight freedom never stops. I am proud of what we have done to protect the Second Amendment and the rights of law-abiding citizens across America.” 📰 Learn more about this news by listening to The Vicki McKenna Show or the WI Morning News podcast, or read it in The Texan. Learn More Here UPDATE | WILL Moves for Summary Judgment Against the FBI for Withholding the Nashville Shooter Manifesto WILL continued its legal fight against the FBI—to obtain Nashville shooter Audrey Hale’s manifesto—by filing a motion for summary judgment in federal court in Nashville. Hale’s motivations for the March 27 attack remain unknown to the public, and the FBI is illegally concealing the information in violation of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). 🗯 WILL Deputy Counsel, Dan Lennington, stated, “Transparency is the key to accountable government. The FBI unfortunately is resisting its legal obligations under FOIA, and we now have asked the court to order the release of the manifesto. We are happy to represent hardworking journalists that want to report on what happened and how we can make our schools safer.” Read More OP-ED | Biden's Title IX changes mean this locker room horror is coming to a school near you ✍️ "The proposed changes to Title IX and policies from the schools... are taking away the protections and rights that were hard-fought for women and girls... The Biden administration still has time to get this right," wrote WILL Associate Counsel, Cory Brewer, in FoxNews. In this op-ed, Brewer pointed out that if the U.S. Department of Education goes through with its current proposed changes, the very purpose of Title IX will be eradicated. The Department should abandon this proposed rule, since it would take away the protections and rights that were hard-fought for women and girls. Read Op-Ed NEW | WILL Challenges Discriminatory Program on Behalf of Texas Small Business WILL sent a letter to Bexar County and its County Manager, David Smith, condemning its racially discriminatory “Small Business Assistance Program.” Bexar County is using $10 million of federal tax dollars to support small businesses; but the program discriminates against many businesses based on race, including WILL client DigitalDesk, Inc. WILL’s letter notifies the county that it will file a lawsuit on behalf of DigitalDesk if the discrimination does not stop. 🗯 WILL Deputy Counsel, Dan Lennington, stated, “Unless our government stops discriminating based on race, America will never achieve its promise of equality for all. Government-sponsored race discrimination is a nationwide problem. Like many other local governments, Bexar County is picking and choosing winners based on race—this is truly a despicable and unconstitutional policy.” Learn More     EVENT | The Federalist Society: 2023 Midwestern Regional Conference Anxiety regarding parental rights in American healthcare and education is at an all time high. The Federalist Soceity's 2023 Midwest Regional Conference panel on June 16—featuring WILL's very own Deputy Counsel, Luke Berg—will discuss questions such as, “Are parental rights being circumvented at the schoolhouse and medical office doors?”; “Who decides the best interest of the child?”; “When should the state’s judgment supersede parents’ judgment?”; and “Who determines the parental right to know?” Register Here   Defend Freedom The work we do would not be possible without the generosity of YOU, our donors; we are a tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization that receives no public funds.
