Friends, Happy National Pride Month!
I’m so glad to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. This month, and every month, I want every LGBTQ+ Virginian and American to know: You are loved for who you are -- and I am committed to working to protect your rights and safety, because every single one of us deserves to feel safe as we are.
That starts by finally passing the Equality Act so we can ensure that no one faces discrimination for who they are or whom they love.
If you’re with me on this, I hope you’ll add your name to my petition in support of the Equality Act today. [[link removed]]
Our nation has made tremendous progress in supporting and protecting our LGBTQ+ community -- from the 2015 landmark Supreme Court decision establishing marriage equality as the law of the land to the Respect for Marriage Act, signed into law at the end of last year.
But we have so much more work to do.
At a time of increasing bigotry and violence, particularly towards the transgender community, we cannot let up in our efforts to ensure safety and peace for every American, no matter how they identify or whom they love.
LGBTQ+ Americans still face discrimination in far too many aspects of life, from housing to the workplace to health care -- impacting health, security, and both physical and mental well-being.
One thing we can do in the Senate to address this problem right now is pass the Equality Act, which would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
And one thing you can do to help make that happen is show that this legislation has true grassroots support behind it. So please, sign my petition in support of passing the Equality Act without delay. [[link removed]]
Together, we can send a message to every LGBTQ+ American that we won’t stop fighting for true equality and safety for every member of this community.
Thanks for your support.
