Today is an important day in our country — it’s National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been over 260 mass shootings in our country this year alone. This devastating number is so much more than just a statistic. It represents thousands of lives lost, and too many families and communities torn apart.

We need to act, and we need to act now.

Congress must take up legislation immediately that bans assault weapons, requires background checks, enacts safe storage requirements, bans bump stocks, and regulates high-capacity magazines.
