Hi there John, it’s Jaclyn Corin reaching out!
June is Gun Violence Awareness Month. While our work doesn't start and end with a month or date, it’s a time to honor gun violence victims and survivors and a chance to recommit ourselves to fighting against all forms of gun violence.
This time last year, we were organizing a youth-led, national march with March For Our Lives advocates, leaders, and coalition partners to demand gun safety legislation in the aftermath of back-to-back massacres in Buffalo and Uvalde. So many of our youth organizers were also in school or college, gearing up for final exams — like I was.
As a survivor, graduation was always a dream of mine but also something that felt out of reach for me. Mainly because I’ve seen my classmates, neighbors, and so many young people not make it to graduation. It’s one of the hardest parts of doing this work.
Whether it’s mass shootings, domestic violence, or firearm suicide, no one is spared from the gun violence epidemic. The status quo is killing us, and that’s why we fight every single day.
This year, I am officially a college graduate, and I am eager to have more time to fight alongside you. Together, we’re moving the needle forward every day, and the victories we’ve won so far – like the sweeping gun safety package President Joe Biden signed into law a year ago – are only just beginning.
Throughout the month, March For Our Lives will be spotlighting issues, activists, and actions happening in the gun violence prevention movement. Check out all the ways you can help end gun violence today, and take one action to kick off Gun Violence Awareness Month →
When we put our voices together, there’s no stopping what our grassroots movement can do. With your support, I have hope that we’ll be the last generation to deal with this deadly epidemic.
Let’s keep up the fight to save lives.
In solidarity,
Jaclyn Corin
