Democrats,
Today marks the first day of Pride Month, and we are celebrating by reaffirming our everlasting support of the LGBTQIA+ community and continuing our commitment to fighting for everyone’s rights to love who they want to love and identify as they want to identify - without judgment, fear, or shame. We’ve already come so far, but it’s more important than ever to continue fighting to ensure that no one faces needless discrimination based on their gender or sexual orientation.
New Mexico Democrats led the way in 2013 with the legalization of marriage equality here in New Mexico by overturning the age-old same-sex marriage ban, even before it was legalized nationally. But Republicans continue to undermine marriage equality and oppose fundamental LGBTQIA+ rights. Our LGBTQIA+ community needs support and we are proud to stand behind them and fight relentlessly for their rights.
This month’s episode of our monthly video newsletter, Blue Opiñon [[link removed]] , we dive deep into the history and evolution of marriage equality in New Mexico and the importance of moving forward with fervor to continue protecting those rights here in New Mexico. We had the opportunity to hear it straight from the trailblazers who made it all happen and two of our own Officers from the LGBTQIA+ community: New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver , who led the way to legal marriage equality in Bernalillo County as County Clerk in 2013; NM Senator Liz Stefanics , New Mexico’s first-ever openly gay state legislator and, along with her partner, the first gay couple to be legally married in Santa Fe County; and DPNM Vice Chair Manny Crespín and Secretary Isaac Dakota Casados , both openly gay men.

We are also excited to announce the reopening of DPNM’s newly renovated online store [[link removed]] ! Whether it’s stickers, pins, or t-shirts, we have exactly what you need to represent Democrats’ core values and show everyone just how fiercely we fight for what we believe in. This month, we released our new Pride Collection, so you can show the world your allyship and support for our LGBTQIA+ community all month long (and longer). Plus, the proceeds will go towards electing Democratic allies into office, to make sure we never lose the rights we worked so hard for and that we continue securing even more fundamental rights for generations to come.
