Why this match now? In the past few months we've seen positive advances in Brazil including the demarcation of six Indigenous territories – more than 1.5 million acres of land – and many more in process. At the same time, we're seeing Brazilian lawmakers caving to mining and agribusiness interests and threatening to roll back constitutional rights by legalizing land grabs and destructive development in Indigenous territories.

Our Indigenous partners' message is clear: allies have to do everything we can to resist these rollbacks and advance land demarcation, the Brazilian process of formally recognizing Indigenous lands. We will not back down. Our team is on the ground in Brazil to override this most recent attempt at slashing Indigenous rights and to continue to move forward with demarcating Indigenous lands.

* resist the marco temporal (“Time Limit Trick”), which would roll back Indigenous land rights across Brazil and legalize land grabbing, extraction, and violence

* mobilize solidarity funds directly to Indigenous peoples and specifically Indigenous women

Indigenous peoples are facing backlash throughout the Amazon because they are achieving major wins for Indigenous rights, climate justice, and the rainforest itself. We are stepping up our solidarity to fortify the positive movement toward permanent protection of Indigenous lands and people and curtail regressive anti-Indigenous policies.
