Hi Friend,

The Washington metro area has a lot of high-end grocery stores. They tend to locate in high-income neighborhoods – but not just any high-income neighborhoods.

Join Greater Greater Washington for a webinar from 12-1pm on Wednesday, May 31 that dives into new Brookings research on the locations of premium grocery stores and what those findings tell us about a trend of under-investment in Black neighborhoods both locally and nationally.

In April 2023, Brookings Metro published a report on the connection between a lack of premium grocery stores in high-income, majority Black neighborhoods and the devaluation of Black communities. Speakers will discuss the report's findings, what they tell us about the persistence of structural racism in urban development and patterns of investment, and the implications for Black-majority communities in the Washington region.

Moderator: Dan Reed, Regional Program Director, Greater Greater Washington

Speakers:

Angie Rodgers, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Economic Development, Prince George’s County

Andre Perry, Senior Fellow, Brookings Institution
