JOhn,

I want to take a moment to honor all of the fallen U.S. soldiers who have fought for our freedom since the American Revolution. It's because of their courageous service that we enjoy the liberty, democracy, and representation of our United States today.

From the forces that rose against a tyrannical king under the command of George Washington to our parents and grandparents who made the ultimate sacrifice during the First and Second World Wars, generations young and old have answered the call to service — and some never made it home.

On Memorial Day, we reflect upon the ultimate sacrifices that brave people in uniform have made for our country since its inception. And we hold in our hearts the stories of Gold Star families who have dealt with the loss of loved ones with grace and tenacity.

So I hope you can spend some time today to pay homage to those who have laid down their lives defending our ideals. Together, we must continue the work of ensuring that our country always reflects these ideals, and that it truly is in the image of those who've sacrificed for it.
