Dear John,

The Emerge New Mexico Class of 2023 had its third day of training on May 20th in the beautiful city of Las Cruces, NM! Your generous support made this training possible, and we are excited to share the key topics that were covered: Field Planning, Reproductive Justice, and Immigration Justice.

The Class of 2023 at their third training on Saturday, May 20th in Las Cruces

We appreciate the expert trainers who make our work possible! This past Saturday, we were joined by:

  • Adriann Barboa, Bernalillo County Commissioner and Policy Director of Forward Together
  • Charlene Bencomo, Executive Director of Bold Futures
  • Samantha Fields, Campaign Organizing Specialist of Planned Parenthood Votes New Mexico
  • Michelle Mayorga, Partner at GBAO Strategies
  • Lorenzo Gutierrez, Data and Field Director at America Votes New Mexico
  • Nayomi Valdez, Director of Public Policy for ACLU New Mexico
  • Jessica Martínez, Outreach Attorney at NM Immigrant Law Center

Also, our class members heard from a powerful group of Southern New Mexico electeds who shared their experiences running for elected office as a woman. The panelists’ insights and advice were invaluable to our class members in their preparation to run for elected office.

Finally, we are grateful to:

  • Las Cruces City Councilor Becky Corran who secured the classroom space at the East Mesa campus of Doña Ana Community College.
  • Representative Joanne Ferrary and Sasha Lujan who provided breakfast.
  • Blanca Adriana Ontiveros and Maribel Tellez who co-sponsored lunch.
  • Mayor ProTem Kasandra Gandara and Jessica Streeter who provided snacks.

This class day was only possible because of the support of our powerful network, especially our Southern New Mexico alums!

Stay tuned for more updates about what the Class of 2023 will learn next; their fourth training day is at the end of June!
