Dear Friends,

Every day, somewhere in America, we are reminded that we don't yet live in a peaceful country. Last week, that place was Farmington. An 18-year-old carrying an assault-style weapon took the lives of three community members and injured six others.

I held a moment of silence and prayer for the lives lost during this tragedy. I am thankful to the police officers and first responders who quickly stepped in to protect our communities. I pray for the quick recoveries of the two wounded police officers and for the families of those we lost. 

Legislative Corner 

I voted for H. Con. Res. 40 because I support law enforcement today and every day. However, this resolution cannot be a substitute for real action to support law enforcement and keep our communities safe. Our police officers, sheriffs, and first responders deserve funding and resources.

Bills that I supported, and the House recently passed, include: 

• S. 777 – Veterans’ COLA Act of 2023, to increase veterans benefits to reflect the cost of living. It is not enough to simply thank veterans for their service, we must provide them with the services they have earned.  
• H.R. 1669 – VET–TEC Authorization Act of 2023, to help our veterans get jobs in the technology sector. 
• H.R. 1076 – Preventing the Financing of Illegal Synthetic Drugs Act, to help combat the flow of fentanyl in our communities. 
• H.R. 1156 – China Financial Threat Mitigation Act of 2023, to protect the American economy from  global economic threats from China. 
• H.R. 366 – Korean American VALOR Act, to make Naturalized Korean American Vietnam War veterans eligible for VA benefits.
