A senior CNN congressional correspondent asked Sen. Martha McSally if she thought the Senate should call witnesses in Donald Trump’s trial.
Rather than answer why she disagreed with the 75% of Americans who wanted to hear from witnesses, she pulled a full Trump. She called the reporter “a liberal hack.” And then she sold anti-journalism “liberal hack” t-shirts as a fundraiser.
McSally is emblematic of Trump’s new GOP -- following his every word, never stepping out of line, and appealing to his lowest base.
If she wins in November, Trump and Mitch McConnell will keep control of the Senate. They’ll ramp up the attacks on immigrants and the Affordable Care Act and do nothing to stop climate change. McSally has voted in line with Trump 95% of the time. And since they’ve already acquitted him, there’ll be no limit to what Trump will do to abuse his power.
Democrat Mark Kelly is running to flip this seat blue. He is a retired Navy pilot, a combat veteran, and an astronaut. His wife, former congresswoman Gabby Giffords, was shot while meeting with her constituents in 2011. That tragedy, and Gabby’s inspiring recovery, galvanized him to become an advocate for gun safety. He and Gabby have become national leaders in the campaign for sensible gun reform, dedicating themselves to fighting the gun violence epidemic and the influence of the NRA in this country.
Republicans are going to do everything they can to keep McSally in office -- especially because Mitch McConnell’s grip on power in the Senate runs right through Arizona. And with her votes acquitting Trump, she’ll have the support of the entire Trump fundraising machine. He’s already done 2 rallies in Arizona.
