John — I need your help. It’s been almost a year since a gunman bought a Daniel Defense AR-15-style rifle and 1,740 rounds of ammunition for his 18th birthday in Uvalde, Texas. Hours later, he went on to commit one of the worst school shootings in history. That’s why we’ve been fighting with survivors and victims’ loved ones for Texas House Bill 2744 ever since — a critical gun safety bill that would raise the minimum age to purchase a semi-automatic gun from 18 to 21. Last month, Uvalde victims’ family members waited hours to testify at the bill’s hearing to tell their stories and pass this lifesaving bill. They were met with resistance from the Chair of the committee, but they didn’t give up. A few weeks later, the bill passed out of the House committee by an 8-5 vote. But there are only five days left until the legislative session ends — they won't meet again until 2025! Texas lawmakers are trying to run out the clock to stop this bill in its tracks, but we can’t let them get away with it.
