đź“ť NOTE FROM THE CHAIR đź“ť

It’s a sunny day here in Wheatland today, and I’m excited to dive into a new week.

President Biden is working to lower costs for working families while Washington Republicans hold our economy hostage, demanding drastic cuts to services that Iowans rely on like teacher salaries and veterans’ health care.

When Representatives Ashley Hinson, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Zach Nunn, and Randy Feenstra voted on HR 2811, they all voted to undermine Social Security and Medicare, cut funding for public schools, and protect tax giveaways for the well-off and well-connected.

It’s frustrating to watch the people who swore an oath to represent Iowans vote against retirement security and our ability to provide the best education for all students, and instead look out for wealthy corporate interests.

In Iowa, we should take pride in preserving our natural resources for the next generation and honor the contributions of those who served our nation. We lend a hand and rally around our neighbors when times are tough. A short flight to Washington should not be enough for our representatives to abandon these Iowa values.

I stopped in at a Black Hawk County Central Committee meeting and town hall last night where we talked about re-electing Sen. Eric Giddens to SD-38 in 2024. Chair Vikki Brown presided over a well-attended event. It was a great example of how we’re combining our efforts and working together at the local and state levels. The panel included Black Hawk County legislators Sen. Bill Dotzler (SD-31), Sen. Eric Giddens (SD-38), Rep. Timi Brown-Powers (HD-61), and Rep. Bob Kressig (HD-75) along with Iowa Senate Democratic Leader Zach Wahls and Sen. Janice Weiner (SD-45) from Iowa City.

I hope that folks came away from the meeting knowing that it’s going to take a coordinated effort to re-elect Eric Giddens in 2024. That work begins now.

Yours,
Rita Hart
