Julie’s GOP opponent Roger Williams voted last night to defend the Trump Administration's dangerous Medicaid block grant plan.

Block grants are the GOP's stealth strategy of allowing states like Texas to make cuts to programs like Medicaid, which is already under attack in our state.

Yet again, Williams has turned his back on Texas Medicaid helps millions of working Texans afford the care they need.

Julie will always champion affordable healthcare, and we need to make sure she gets to Congress to fight for it. It’s critical that we elect leaders to Congress who will fight with those for whom basic necessities like healthcare and education are always an afterthought or the first thing on the chopping block. As a teenage mom in poverty, Julie was able to rely on Medicaid for prenatal care -- and it was only thanks to Medicaid that she was able to have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.

The situation in Texas is dire. Five million of our fellow Texans don’t have health insurance. We’re suffering from a maternal mortality crisis that disproportionately affects black women. And the state has made it harder and harder for Texans who might qualify for Medicaid to know where to turn to seek basic services.

These cuts to Medicaid are heartless attempts to avoid helping those who need it most, and we won’t stand for it. It's time to show that we're fighting back.
