#LowcountryFirst Pass In Review | May 19, 2023 National Police Week Hello and happy Police Week! It’s been another busy week here in DC - kicking off the week with the Back the Blue Press Conference to show our unwavering support for the men and women in blue. On this National Police Week, it is vital to emphasize the importance of our police officers - without them, our communities would be filled with violent crime and unrest. We pay homage to our police officers here in South Carolina and across the nation for their service, sacrifice, and dedication to keeping us all safe. As many of you know, crime is rampant and out of control in our nation’s capital - DC U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves helped create the crime crisis in our nation’s capital. Now he wants to blame “non-traditional media” for “fear-mongering.” Watch us push back here. For years, our constituents in Cane Bay have struggled to get their mail on time - they need a new zip code. We asked the Post Master General about the next steps required in order to get this zip code, look here. The University of South Carolina’s Leadership Salkehatchie program came by our office to discuss the challenges and successes of higher education in the Lowcountry and across South Carolina. This week, we also met with the US Army War College, the South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association, the Iranian Human Rights Defenders, the South Carolina Society of Anesthesiologists, the Municipal Association of South Carolina, and more. We had a special visitor in our office this week - Riley Gaines. As women who have broken glass ceilings, we will not stand for biological men trying to take the accomplishments of women, period. Just this week we saw men modeling women’s bathing suits - it has to stop. Women in Iran are being stripped of their basic rights. We chaired a joint hearing with the Iranian Women Congressional Caucus and Iran Human Rights and Democracy Caucus to talk to witness Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran. We offer our unwavering commitment to advocating for the freedom and rights of women in Iran - we will not stand for the grave human rights violations inflicted upon them. Did you hear? Title 42 ended just last week. Secretary Mayorkas says we don’t have an open border - has he actually seen our southern border? It’s simply not true. As a heads up, the submissions for the Congressional Art Competition have CLOSED! We will announce the competition's winner soon - so stay tuned! Our office has recently started a new series called “Sunday Sunsets.” If you live in the district and want to show off your beautiful sunset picture, drop it here. As you all may know, when we aren’t in DC, we are hosting one of our Lowcountry events such as Coffee or Cocktails With Your Congresswoman. To stay in the loop on when we hold our events, stay subscribed to our newsletter and follow our Eventbrite page! We are always here to assist you with any issues or concerns. Please feel free to reach out to us. It is an honor to serve each and every one of you. Have a great weekend and happy Mother's Day to all of our mothers here in South Carolina and across the country. Sincerely, Congresswoman Nancy Mace Visit My Website DISTRICT DOG OF THE WEEK 🐶Our #DistrictDog of the week is Belle.
