The Texas Senate Does Not Waste Time on Bills Without Overwhelming GOP Support

Texas is a red state, yet the House vote on sports betting legislation was carried by a Democrat majority. The Texas Senate does not pass bills with GOP in the minority. The GOP majority guides our path. House Bill 1942 and HJR 102 will not be referred to committee. We cannot waste committee and floor time in the last days of session. The Senate must focus on issues voters expect us to pass and elected us to pass.

Bad at Budgeting: Golden State Not So Golden

Not So Golden

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced Friday that the Golden State’s budget deficit sits at $32 billion, which is roughly $10 billion more than he predicted earlier this year. Yikes! As Lt. Governor, I have always delivered a balanced conservative budget that funds key matters while staying within a budget that does not outgrow population times inflation. Even with a surplus budget, we must not spend all the money. We can’t end up like California!

Escaped Prisoner Shot and Killed by Police after Five Family Members Killed

Last week, we recognized the law enforcement officers from Atascosa County who took down the vicious killer who murdered five family members outside of Houston last year.

The murders took place hundreds of miles away, but the alertness of these men finally ended a weeks-long manhunt when they saw him in their county. They moved quickly and put him down for good. Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line for us every day and I am so grateful for their dedication.

Asian American Day at the Capitol

It was great to meet with several Asian American Texans at the Capitol last week for Asian American Day. The Asian American community contributes so much to our great state and nation; it was an honor to recognize their accomplishments.

Meeting with BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha

I also spoke with BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha at the Capitol. They are doing excellent volunteer work within their community, and it was fantastic meeting with them.

Thank you all for your support and everything you do to keep Texas red. May God bless you and your family, and may He continue to bless the greatest state of all—Texas.

Sincerely,

Dan Patrick
