Hello John — it’s Ciara Malone, Legal Director of March For Our Lives. I’m reaching out to give you an update on our judicial work.

We just filed an amicus brief in the 7th Circuit case National Association for Gun Rights, et al. v. State of Illinois, et al. to support the assault weapons ban passed by Illinois lawmakers.

After electing a pro-gun-safety majority, the Illinois state legislature passed the Protect Illinois Communities Act earlier this year in response to the shooting at Highland Park’s Fourth of July parade that killed seven people and injured 48 attendees.

Despite the people of Illinois’ overwhelming support of the bill, the gun lobby immediately tried blocking it and challenged the law in court. Luckily, our movement is fighting to keep it in place.

Our amicus brief aims to give a voice to the victims and survivors of gun violence and the deadly impact these types of weapons have on our communities. We must remind the judges that this hard-fought bill is already saving lives and is essential to preventing massacres like what we saw in Highland Park.

Your support helps us defend the gun safety bills we advocated for and won across the country. Chip in today to keep our momentum going and fuel our judicial work:

Our movement is powered entirely by grassroots supporters like you fighting for a safe, inclusive future free of gun violence.

Thanks for supporting our fight in the courts. I’ll keep you updated on this case in the future.

In solidarity,
