Webinars 1, 2, and 3 introduce participants to the basics of 'A Global Security System‘ (The AGSS), while Webinars 4 and 5 provide access to training, mentoring and coaching opportunities in support of youth-led peace initiatives.
After a successful webinar in April - which included reflections on ‘Demilitarizing Security’ from Columbia, Mexico, and Guatemala – Webinar 2 will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 6 – 8 pm ET. To get started, we’ll hear from representatives from the UN, academia, and civil society about strategies to ‘Manage Conflict without Violence’, From this, we’ll use breakout rooms to facilitate a more interactive and real-time learning experience.
Speakers include:
· Robert Valent, Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean (United Nations) - Topic: The Role of the UN in Peace and Security
· Dr Jeff Pugh, Co-Founder at the Regional Institute on Nonviolent Action in the Americas - Topic: The Practice and Study of Non-Violent Action
· Gabriel Ortiz Crespo, Lawyer, American University - Topic: International Law, Peace, and Security
This webinar will be moderated by Maria Antonia (Rotary Peace Fellow, U4C: Columbia) and include remarks from Dr. Phill Gittins (WBW: UK/Bolivia).
