Secure the Border Act — A Victory for Texas This week, I was proud to vote for the Secure the Border Act — a comprehensive bill I helped draft to combat illegal immigration and secure our border. House Republicans’ passage of the Secure the Border Act is a victory for all Americans — especially those living on the frontlines of this crisis in states like Texas. For two years now, we have seen migrant encounters, drug trafficking, and cartel activity skyrocket due to the Biden administration’s failed open-border policies. This bill would finally put a stop to the chaos. It’s time Senate Democrats, President Biden, and Secretary Mayorkas joined the effort; our nation’s strength, security, and success depend on it. I joined Greta Van Susteren on Newsmax after the vote to discuss why the bill is so important. ⬇️ Click to watch As chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I was proud to introduce a section of the Secure the Border Act that would compel the Biden administration to reinstate Remain in Mexico. This successful Trump-era policy kept migrants in Mexico while awaiting their asylum hearings, avoiding a system of "catch and release." I spoke about this and more on the House floor this week: Click to watch I also included a provision in the bill to require the federal government to asses reimbursing Texas for funds used to secure the border over the past two years. Texas has borne the brunt of the Biden administration's border crisis, and we must ensure the sacrifices of our border states are not forgotten. More from my remarks at a press conference with Speaker McCarthy and others this week: Click to watch Pursuing Answers on the Failed Afghanistan Withdrawal Ever since President Biden's deadly and chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, I've been focused on getting answers about what went wrong. I've asked the State Department numerous times to release the Afghanistan dissent cable, a document in which State Department employees dissented with the administration's withdrawal plan. I even issued a subpoena for the cable, but the State Department has once again failed to comply. Our veterans and gold star families deserve answers about what led to this disaster of epic proportions. That's why I now intend to pursue holding Secretary of State Antony Blinken in contempt of Congress. Even CNN agreed that my requests have been reasonable, and the Biden administration should turn over this document. Click here to read more from Newsmax, and click below to watch my interview.
