PA Union Volunteers,
If you are a registered Republican, voting in the GOP primary for PA
Supreme Court on May 21 will help to eliminate a dangerous MAGA extremist
candidate from contention for a seat on the Court.
On May 21, Pennsylvania GOP primary voters will choose between two
candidates for an open seat on the state Supreme Court. One of
them—Commonwealth Court Judge Patricia McCullough—has close ties to MAGA
extremists, and has a history of anti-democratic rulings:
-
As a Commonwealth Court Judge In 2020, McCullough ordered state
officials to halt certification of election results, just a day after Gov.
Tom Wolf declared Joe Biden the winner. A higher court later dismissed her
ruling saying it would result in the disenfranchisement of millions of
voters.
-
Chosen as special master for redistricting, Judge McCullough pushed a
highly gerrymandered congressional map drawn up by Republican legislators,
which was rejected by the state Supreme Court as a blatant attempt to
create an unfair GOP advantage.
-
Mccullough sided with Trump prior to the 2020 election, too, dissenting
from the Commonwealth Court’s decision to prohibit observers in satellite
locations where Pennsylvanians register to vote and apply for and return
mail-in ballots. The scheme was seen as an attempt to intimidate voters.
As a justice on the state’s highest court, McCullough will be asked to rule
on elections and voting integrity. She could do untold damage to democracy—and
do it year after year. Once on the court, McCullough would serve for 10
years, and then she would face only a yes-or-no retention election—without
opposition from other candidates.
As it did in 2021, the Pennsylvania Bar Association again refused to
recommend McCullough for a seat on the state’s highest court.
If you are a registered Republican, you can join the PA Bar Association and
other pro-democracy forces in rejecting her as the Republican candidate for
the Supreme Court by voting for the other candidate on May 21 and voting
for a pro-democracy candidate in the general election in November.
It will take all of us,
The Union PA <
