Recently,theNCGeneralAssemblypassedhistoriclegislationinresponsetoRoev.Wadebeingoverturned.The“CareforWomen,Children,andFamiliesAct"(SB20),isdesignedto saveatleast4,000preciousunbornbabieseachyearfromthehorrorofabortion,andlikelythousandsmorewhenyoufactorinitsrestrictionsagainstchemicalabortions.Furthermore, with76%ofabortion-determinedwomenreportingthattheywouldchooselifeiftheircircumstancesweredifferent,thebilliscommendableforgoingtogreatlengthstoensurepro-life fundingandresourcesareavailabletohelpcareforboththemotherandthechild.



Itisagoodstepintherightdirection—towardmakingNCadestinationforlifeinsteadofadestinationforabortion.



Fornearlytwoyears,wehavebeenworkingextremelyhardtotryandsaveasmanybabiesaspossible.Inadditiontomaintainingacontinuedpro-valuespresenceattheGeneral Assembly,ourteamhassoughtawideassortmentofstrategiestoprotecttheunborn.FromfilinganAmicusbriefintheDobbscasethatoverturnedRoe;todraftinga37pagepro-life protectionsbill;toconductingmedia-citedstatewidepollingonabortion;tofieldingpressinterviewsfromstateandnationalorganizationsliketheNewYorkTimesandtheNewsand Observer;toorganizinganumberofclick-to-contactcampaignsthatamplifiedandconnectedyourvoicetoyourlegislator,wehavefoughthardforasmanyprotectionsforunborn babiesandtheirmothersaspossible. WeapplaudGeneralAssemblymemberswhotookthiscourageousfirststepinprotectinglifefortheunbornandprovidingcareforpregnantwomeninhardcircumstancesbypassing the“CareforWomen,ChildrenandFamiliesAct.”



However,GovernorCooperisexpectedtovetothelegislation, because his extreme view is that abortion should be unrestricted up until the day of birth. GovernorCooperwasabletoputenoughpressureonmembersofhisownpartytovoteagainsttheirconsciences.Nowthatheisrunningoutofoptions,he'sadoptedthestrategyofa bully,callingoutfourRepublicansbyname and pressuring them to vote against their consciences and their party as well.Hehasannouncedthatbeforehevetoesthebill,hewilltravelthestatethisweekinanefforttoputpressureon these four Republicans to sustain his veto. It will only take one defecting Republican to make that happen.InNebraska,pro-lifelegislationwasthwartedwhenjustasingleRepublicanheldoutvotingfortheirpro-lifebill'sadvance.



Wecan'tletthathappeninNorthCarolina.
