Last month, I wrote to you about the GOP’s plan to cut food assistance programs for low-income Americans as part of their legislation to raise the debt ceiling and pay our nation’s bills.

Then they passed a dangerous and partisan bill last week that would cut jobs, raise prices, slash programs that support our seniors, and more — or they’ll force America to default on our bills, causing economic calamity. If the extreme Republicans get their way, here’s how Rhode Islanders would feel it:

* 253,000 Rhode Islanders would face longer wait times to receive their Social Security and Medicare benefits
* 55,000 Rhode Islanders could lose their Medicaid coverage
* 2,400 Rhode Islanders could see their housing costs go up
* 1,850 clean energy and manufacturing jobs in Rhode Island would disappear

And this is just scratching the surface. That’s why it’s so important that Democrats take back the House next year. When we retake the majority, we can keep working on creating jobs, strengthening our economy, and delivering for all Americans.
