Dear John,
This afternoon, the NC Senate voted to pass the Republican abortion ban. Republicans undemocratically rammed the bill through the legislature in just 48 hours.
This huge, 46-page bill would not only limit abortion to 12 weeks, but enact even more unnecessary restrictions on doctors and clinics and give millions to fake "clinics" that deny pregnant people accurate information about abortion.
We're so thankful for our Featured Candidates in the Senate, all of whom bravely stood up for our reproductive rights and gave powerful and often personal testimonies during today's debate.
We now expect Gov. Cooper to veto the bill, after which the House and Senate will vote to override the veto. Because of turncoat Tricia Cotham's (who we did not endorse) betrayal and party switch, Republicans now have a supermajority in both chambers.
However, Republican Rep. Ted Davis did not vote for the ban and made a campaign promise to not impose further abortion restrictions. We encourage you to contact his office and urge him to keep his promise.
The only way to ensure abortion remains accessible in North Carolina is to vote these anti-abortion extremists out of office. We are actively recruiting real pro-choice, progressive women to challenge anti-abortion legislators. You can help our recruitment and training efforts by making a contribution today.
Contributions up to $2,000 are being matched by our generous donors Sara Smith and Peter Foster, MD.
We are in the fight of our lives to protect abortion access in NC and across the Southeast. Let's keep fighting back!
In solidarity,
Sarah Preston
