We are in the midst of budget season and, as always, your Treasurer's Office is looking to the future with intentionality and purposeful planning so we can continue to serve you with innovation and enthusiasm.
To meet the needs of our growing County, we have requested a $99,000 increase from County Council. Below you can watch Maria's budget presentation and read some highlights of where we're headed in 2024. |

2024 Budget Highlights…
- We are excited to expand our customer service management software; delivering a great experience, no matter how you contact us.
- A top-requested item, we will be upgrading our website so you can look up copies of past receipts.
- On our team, completing tasks isn't enough. No stereotypical government here! We will be implementing a merit-performance pay structure that requires 360° evaluations based on our vision, mission, and core values.
- Life is hard enough, especially when you move. Our New Resident Program will be growing to include even more proactive communications to avoid stress come tax-time, such as notifications about your tax discounts.

Reflecting on Fiscal Year 2023, here is what we've achieved so far:
- Reaching a new milestone, actively managed cash balances surpassed $1.1 billion dollars.
- We continued to put your dollars to work earning $12.3 million in investment earnings, more than five times our operating budget, and will surpass $20 million in earnings before year end. With Maria's innovative investment program, what Beaufort County used to earn per year, your Treasurer's Office is now earning every 9 days.
- Reflecting our population growth, we handled 44,000 customer inquiries across multiple platforms.
- We have managed the billing of 392,000 accounts totaling $560 million.
