Rep. Troy E. Nehls Speaks at House Judiciary Committee Hearing: Oversight of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap on what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Washington Rep. Troy E. Nehls Speaks at House Judiciary Committee Hearing: Oversight of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) This week, the House Judiciary Committee conducted oversight on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and examined the unconstitutional pistol brace rule. The ATF's final rule reclassifies pistols as short-barreled rifles if they have a stabilizing brace attachment. Stabilizing braces are often used by and were originally created for wounded and disabled Americans. By definition, this rule would criminalize millions of law-abiding citizens and veterans like myself if they fail to comply with the rule by May 31, 2023. During the hearing, I questioned ATF Director Steve Dettelbach specifically regarding the enforcement mechanisms the ATF will utilize to impose fines and arrest citizens who do not comply with the final rule. Director Dettelbach refused to answer my questions and it remains unclear how the ATF intends to enforce the rule. The ATF should instead focus its resources on actual criminals rather than targeting law-abiding citizens. It is time for accountability and answers, and I will always fight to preserve your Second Amendment right. Watch my full remarks HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Speaks at House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Hearing on the Border Crisis and Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs) This week, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime held a hearing to examine the unprecedented surge of unaccompanied alien children (UACs) at the southwest border and how open-border policies enable the exploitation of those children. Under President Joe Biden, there has been a massive surge of UACs arriving at our southwest border. These children are being exploited through child labor and unsafe working conditions and placed in dangerous homes with no sufficient follow-up to check on their safety. Due to immigration loopholes, illegal alien adults can pose as children to enter our interior, infiltrating our schools and communities and killing American citizens. Watch my remarks from the hearing HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Speaks at House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance Hearing on Fixing FISA This week, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance examined the FBI’s abuse of FISA authorities and the failures of the FBI in implementing reforms to prevent further abuses. The Department of Justice (DOJ) has been weaponized against the American people, and it is long past time for transparency and accountability. The federal government should work for the American people — not against them. Watch my remarks from the hearing HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes YES and Passes the Limit, Save, Grow Act I proudly voted for the Limit, Save, Grow Act of 2023, which responsibly raises the debt ceiling, limits radical out-of-touch spending in Washington, and saves taxpayers trillions of dollars. House Republicans took historic action to strengthen the American economy, protect American families, and responsibly raise the debt ceiling while saving $4.8 trillion over ten years. While President Biden and Democrats have no intention to work with Republicans in Congress to curb reckless government spending, Republicans are committed to restoring fiscal sanity and stopping Washington’s spending spree. Admission to a service academy is a two-tiered process. First, the candidate must meet the minimum standards set by the individual academy. Second, the candidate must complete the congressional application by October 6, 2023, to be considered for an interview in our office with the nomination review board. Please note, the ultimate selection of appointees rests solely with academy officials and is based on their competitive evaluation of all nominees.
