Yours in service,   Mann.House.Gov The Week Ahead Today, the U.S. House of Representatives will address the debt limit by voting on the Limit, Save, Grow Act. This is the first step in a negotiation, and President Biden has failed to bring anything to the table so far. Unlike Washington Democrats’ attempts to give President Biden another no-limit credit card, House Republicans are proposing a sensible increase to the debt ceiling that will limit future government spending, reclaim unspent COVID money, reduce the federal regulatory state, and promote pro-growth economic policies. The Biden Administration’s spending addiction has created massive inflation and caused our national debt to climb to the unthinkable height of $31 trillion, more than the entire U.S. economy.  This week, I will also attend a House Agriculture Subcommittee hearing on digital assets, and a House Transportation and Infrastructure markup on the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2023. Meetings in the Office: Kansas Livestock Association Kansas Health Association Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Kansas Insurance Commissioner Kansas Association of Insurance Agents   Mann.House.Gov In the Office Chairman Mann Holds House Agriculture Committee’s Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry Hearing on Animal Health Last Tuesday, I gaveled in for the first time as the Chairman of the House Agriculture’s Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry. Chairing this subcommittee is a unique honor for me as I represent the Big First, where producers sell $10 billion worth of livestock, dairy, poultry, and products like beef, milk, and eggs every year, more than any other Congressional district. I’m looking forward to bringing the voices of Kansas farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers to the impactful conversations we will have on this committee in the 118th Congress. Demanding Answers from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan The Big First District of Kansas is the number one beef, sorghum, and wheat-producing district in the country. Producers in Kansas and across the country have made it loud and clear that they can not survive when the government burdens them with nonsensical regulations and red tape. During last week's House Agriculture Committee hearing with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan, I shared these concerns with Administrator Regan and demanded answers regarding the proposed revisions to the interim decision for atrazine, allowing for permanent E15 sales year-round, and the EPA's decision to move forward with a new overreaching WOTUS rule. Regan Advancing U.S. Aviation Technology America must stay on the cutting edge of aviation and aerospace technology to remain competitive, secure, and economically healthy. The National Center for the Advancement of Aviation Act, which I cosponsor, would establish a non-governmental national center for aviation and aerospace STEM curriculum for students. The center would also develop and train the aviation workforce, providing a critical forum for cross-disciplinary collaboration. This is a commonsense solution that addresses a workforce problem in America, and it highlights that our brightest days are yet to come. Supporting U.S. Military Spouses Military service is family service, and the spouses of our brave service men and women are often forgotten heroes. The Military Spouse Hiring Act, which I cosponsor, would expand the Work Opportunity Tax Credit to include military spouses. This would allow for a one-time credit for the first year of a military spouse’s employment, and it’s the least we can do to make life a little easier for some of our nation’s heroes. Bottom row, left to right: Dodge City Chamber; Garden City Chamber Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting with members of city chambers from Dodge City, Hays, Liberal, and Garden City while they were in D.C. As advocates for their communities, city chambers work to ensure that their local businesses and economies continue to prosper. I enjoyed hearing about their initiatives for community growth and learning more about how I can best serve them on my committees and in Congress. Thank you for taking the time to meet with me! Lawrence Chamber of Commerce Thanks to the Lawrence Chamber for meeting with me last week. I enjoyed hearing about their initiatives and projects that are improving the Lawrence community, like the updates to the Lawrence Regional Airport. The Lawrence Chamber is doing great work for their community, and I’m honored to represent them in Congress. Southwest Kansas Groundwater Management Thank you to Mark Rude, Clay Scott, Jason Norquest, and Randy Hayzlett with the Southwest Kansas Groundwater Management District for meeting with me last week. Groundwater Management Districts provide critical input from local communities, which guides water policy at every level of government. Ensuring that communities have access to water is a big task, and I’m grateful for the work they are doing for the communities of Southwest Kansas. Rural Broadband Coalition Having access to high quality, reliable broadband is essential to rural communities in the Big First District. I enjoyed meeting with members of the Rural Broadband Coalition. Their mission is to build a better future for rural America, and I’m grateful for the work they are doing to close the digital divide. Fraternal Government Relations Coalition I recently met with the Fraternal Government Relations Coalition (FRC) to discuss several federal policy issues that are important to college students. Audrey Burgoon, a member of Tri Delta at K-State; Caleb Stout, a member of FarmHouse at K-State; and others shared about FGRC, which strives to give Greek life students a safe and positive collegiate experience. As an alumnus of Delta Chi at K-State, I appreciated meeting with Audrey, Caleb, and the rest of the FGRC team. Shippers Coalition The Shippers Coalition is the joint effort of more than 80 of America's most prominent manufacturers, agribusinesses, and trade associations advocating for a safer trucking system. Without truckers and distributors, agricultural producers wouldn’t be able to feed, fuel, and clothe the world. As a member of the House Agriculture and Transportation & Infrastructure committees, I’m grateful that the members of the Coalition took the time to meet with me.   Mann.House.Gov Happening Across the Country Celebrating Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israel's 75th Anniversary Israel is America’s strongest ally in the Middle East.
