On April 22 we’ll be celebrating Earth Day. At City Limits, we're on a mission to expose the challenges New York faces from climate change, as well as highlight opportunities for how local leaders can better prepare our region for the future.

Earlier this year, we hired a full-time reporter, Mariana Simões, to expand our climate and environment coverage ([link removed]) .

We recently published Simões’ in-depth investigation on Manhattan's Hudson Yards ([link removed]) , which calls itself a model neighborhood for energy efficiency. But public data paints a different picture: City Limits analyzed energy consumption records for dozens of the neighborhood’s green-boasting buildings and found that fewer than half had scored above the median under the city’s own rating system.

We spent weeks investigating this story—reviewing city records, speaking with experts, and hitting the neighborhood’s streets—in order to uncover this environmental issue. As we approach Earth Day, will you support our local independent journalism and help us continue to tell stories like this one?
