For Texans who want to support kids in their community and statewide, inform the implementation of bills that passed in 2019, and shape the agenda of the 2021 legislative session, the Texas Legislature’s “interim charges” offer a critical opportunity.

Over the next 11 months, Texas Senate and House committees will hold hearings, conduct research, and write reports on the issues — formally called “interim charges” — assigned to them by the Lt. Governor and Speaker.

To make the most of this opportunity, Texans Care for Children invites you to attend:

Making the Most of 2020:

TX Lege Interim Charges on Children’s Issues

Wednesday, February 26
9:30 - 11:30 am
At the Texas Hospital Association
1108 Lavaca Street # 700, Austin, TX 78701

During the event, we will discuss the following six subjects that are included in House and/or Senate interim charges:

Child care quality and safety

Student mental health

Maternal and infant health

Leveraging the federal Family First Act

Early childhood brain development

Reducing the uninsured rate

Texans Care for Children staff will provide brief remarks on each interim charge, facilitate a discussion, and gather input from partners, community organizations, and other stakeholders in attendance.

Many of these interim charges are important for stakeholders from a variety of issue areas. The Family First Act discussion, for example, will be relevant for Texans working on foster care, CPS removals, home visiting, substance use treatment for parents, children’s mental health, juvenile justice, teen pregnancy, and more.
